Dr. Kal's Diabetes Protocol (as used in his clinic)
The first step in healing diabetes is cleaning out infection--components of one's own microbiome--which have gotten into the wrong place. If the stomach (due to stress or sugar consumption or not moving enough or head injuries or just bad diet or not chewing well) gets weak or does not produce secretions and mix them as it should, then the upper portion of the small intestine--called the duodenum--becomes inhabited by the microbiome. This portion of the digestive tract should be basically sterile. When someone gets diagnosed with SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth) it is this phenomenon which has occurred.
If this overgrowth persists very long, it will find its way to a small sphincter valve an inch or so below the bottom sphincter of the stomach. This valve, called the "sphincter of Oddi" joins the common bile duct and the pancreatic duct to the beginning of the duodenum. These two ducts--the common bile duct carrying bile and the pancreatic duct carrying pancreatic enzymes--join together for the last centimeter or so into one tube which then terminates at the sphincter of Oddi.
If the overgrowth gets into the biliary system, irritation, gall bladder attacks, stones, etc. can result. If it gets into the pancreas, then the pancreas can become inflamed, pancreatic enzyme production can wane and even the head of the pancreas can begin to function poorly. This appears to be a major cause (if not the only cause) of diabetes. Even the auto immune attacks may be related to proteins from bacteria in the pancreas and subsequent chronic inflammation.
My experience has been that insulin sensitivity problems is a totally separate problem and does not automatically lead to diabetes. Many people have insulin sensitivity problems because of stressful diet and lifestyle. This can raise insulin and this certainly causes myriad problems in the body, including weight gain and probably dysfunctional digestion (which can lead to diabetes). It does not automatically cause diabetes, however. For diabetes, the pancreas must begin to fail to keep up with demand.
So, the opening sequence of healing diabetes begins with a flush calculated to clean out infection everywhere. This is Dr. Kal's disinfectant protocol.
This is 4 days of juice fasting. During this time, drink a pint of juice 4 times daily. This must be fresh, raw juice and must be limited to apple, carrot and celery.
Take a little (up to 1/4 teaspoon) of cayenne pepper 15 minutes before each juice.
On the evening of day one, begin the disinfectant enemas. There will be 4 of each of two separate enemas. One, given every evening, is made from garlic. The other, given each morning, is made from black walnut hull or leaf. This begins with the first evening until the 4th evening.
Granulated garlic tea enema: This is made by pouring 5 cups of boiling water over 2 heaping tablespoons of granulated garlic (like powdered, but larger pieces). Let cool all the way to room temperature, then strain. Use all 5 cups as the enema. Rarely can a bowel hold that much, so normally it is expected that the person will fill the bowel, void, refill the bowel and void again, maybe as many as 3-4 x to get the whole enema in. This same rule applies for the morning enema as well.
Black Walnut enema: This is made by putting 2 heaping tablespoons of the leaves or hull powder/pieces into 5 cups of distilled water. Bring to a full, rolling boil. Cover and turn off heat. Allow to cool to room temperature. Strain and use as the enema. This is the morning enema and, once again, use all 5 cups.
Basic Enema Instructions: First of all, many people try to "do" this program without the enemas because for some reason (and they literally never know why) the enemas make them uncomfortable. If this is your firm position, do not bother. I cannot help you. Good luck not losing your sight and your limbs and dying a slow, miserable death...all over an unknown discomfort! Every single person who has done the enemas in spite of lots of fear about them has come back and said the same thing--that they have no idea what they were afraid of, that it was nothing!
I have grown to like an enema bucket. We have used a disposable one-use bucket we paid $8 for on Amazon for about 3 years now. However, a good enema bag is fine too. The important thing is that once you fill it with the 5 cups, make sure the air is out of the line, close the valve on the line. Put the bag or bucket on a countertop. Then lubricate the tip with petroleum jelly or an herbal ointment. Lay on your back on the floor, insert the tip into the anus about 2 inches. Open the valve and relax. Massage your abdomen as it goes in, particularly if you feel the urge to void right away. Retain the enema as long as possible. The garlic will likely be very stimulating and will need to be voided quickly, while the black walnut is quite mild and may be retained quite a while.
After the 4 days, it might be necessary to re-acidify the gut lining. For this, we use Standard Process Cal Amo, 6/day with food for one month.
This diet is very strict and must be followed perfectly for at least 8 weeks. The important thing is that the blood sugar return to complete normalcy before leaving the Low Inflammation Diet. After 8 weeks, if the levels are not completely normal, repeat the disinfectant enemas and 4 days of juice fasting.
Once the blood sugar levels are consistently within the normal range, then the person can move to the Low Insulin diet, which is discussed in the Eating for Life blog post.
Starting with DAY 1: Massage castor oil into the abdomen under the ribs on both sides. Move from side to middle and do this for at least 5 minutes, 5 nights per week before bed.
After the INITIAL 4 days, the following supplements are regularly used:
1. From Standard Process: Calcium Lactate 10 tablets with 2 Zypan tablets in the morning. 2 Pancreatrophin every morning.
2. From Dr. Christopher's Original Formulas: Pancreas Formula 2 night and morning (2x2), Lower Bowel Formula (enough with lunch and dinner to produce 3 easy bowel movements per day), Jurassic Green, 1 tablespoon in juice or water every day always.
3. Cayenne pepper (up to 1/4 teaspoon) stirred into water 15 minutes before each meal and snack always.
How to maintain it: The gut needs to reset regularly. The easiest way to do this is to water fast one day a week and three days together at the end of each month. The cayenne in water 15 minutes before each meal is to do forever as also is the low insulin program. It is a life-sentence when you have been diagnosed with diabetes because the body will remember how to go back there again. Always work toward 70% or more raw while doing this program.
